Do you have a best friend? I'm sure you do!
Everybody has someone who makes us smile by just seeing him or her. And you
know what? Sometimes, that best friend may not even be human!
This is the case for a six-year-old boy named Roman in Jay Fowler's Billy
the Friendly Blue Bird. Billy is a treasured member of Roman's family. He
helps Roman with his homework. They laugh, play, and talk about life's
adventures. They have so much fun together.
Billy the Friendly Blue Bird is based on a true story. Billy is derived from
a blue puppet bird used by author Jay Fowler himself to communicate with his
son. This story shares that you don't have to be alike to become best
friends. You just have to like each other and enjoy being together.

I liked the conversational approach to the extra information on each page. Fowler delivers his topic educationally but engagingly. Children who enjoy astronomy or want to learn more about it will love Billy the Friendly Bluebird and His Outer Space Adventure.
